Welcome Back 2025 - 2026

TMHS Community:

Welcome Back! I know it is still summer and hoping you are savoring those summer days! We are excited to welcome everyone to the 2025-2026 school year. Our front desk, administration and counseling staff returned to the office today and we are busy getting ready.
We are excited to hear about your summer and will be ready to go on August 19th!

This year our goal is to ensure that each and every student is learning at high levels. We will do that by operating as Professional Learning Communities and ensure that all students are learning what is essential.

Thank you for your continued support and we are excited for the 25 - 26 school year!

There is a lot of important information, please read through carefully and reach out with any questions.

SCHOOL STARTS TUESDAY August 19 @ 8:10 am!

Student Schedules

Student schedules will be available on Tuesday, August 5th by noon. We will not be mailing student schedules, rather they will only be available online at Power School. If you need assistance logging into Power School please contact helpdesk@telluride.k12.co.us Please understand that we do our best to fill everyone’s requests, though our schedule is not able to accommodate every situation.

School Counselors will assist students in making schedule changes before school starts. All requests should be made using the link below. Schedules may be changed if students are in the wrong course, an academic course they no longer wish to complete, or a non-preferred elective option. Schedule changes requests will not be filled if requests are for a specific teacher or to be with a group of friends.

PLEASE NOTE, schedules are continuing to change due to new student enrollments, sections, etc. Please continue to check your schedule.

Cell Phones, Air Pods & Smart Watches

This past year, I ran a book club on The Anxious Generation by Jonathan Haidt, with a group of parents and teachers. We had great discussions as well as learned a lot. I presented our information to our school Miner Community Meeting, the Board of Education, THS Student Council as well as TMHS staff. In all the feedback I received and research I did I came to the conclusion that to provide the best education both academically and social emotionally we need to and will ban cell phones, air pods, and smart watches from being used on the TMHS campus.

As Telluride High School educators, we value the relationships and connections that we make in person, face to face; we want to create this culture at school, one where people talk to each other, laugh with each other, and experience the joy of being truly present and not be distracted by texts, snaps, tweets, games, and more. By limiting access to smartphones during the academic day, we are creating an opportunity for students to connect with each other and their teachers more deeply; to be more present and engaged in their learning; and to be free from the constant pressure of responding to notifications or keeping a streak alive.

We are excited for all of the great opportunities that a cell phone free environment will afford students and staff alike. The MS policy stays the same in that phones and smart watches are locked up for the day. For a detailed description of the procedure please click the link below.

This means every student needs WIRED headphones.

Thank you in advance for supporting our efforts to prepare TMHS students to be the very best that they can be!

Student Handbook

I am aware that everyone signs off on our handbook but not everyone knows the details of our handbook.

At the start of the year Mr. Murray, Ms. Jenni, Mr. Jones and I will be visiting classes to review The Miner Way of integrity, respect, responsibility.

Prior to the start of school I will be sending out a separate email that highlights some handbook 101 and highlights.

Important Info

Lockers: All MS students are assigned a locker. If HS students would like a locker they should use the Locker Request Form
Parking Passes: Only seniors can park on campus, an application will be emailed to seniors separately.
Orientation information: We are in the process of finalizing orientations for 7th, 9th and new students; tentatively they will be Monday, August 18th. Please watch for additional information.
Miner Community Meeting: Our TMHS Miner Community Meeting will meet the 1st Tuesday of every month, we will not hold meetings in December and April. This is a great way to get involved with our schools. The TMHS co-chairs are Kathleen Merritt and Kim Browne. They can be reached at: kathleen@brightfuturesforchildren.org
Safety & Security: As a reminder, students can only enter and exit through the TMHS front doors. All other doors on the TMHS campus have alarms during the school day. The purpose is that individuals cannot prop doors open and we know everyone who is entering the building. There are consequences up to suspension for triggering alarms during the school day. All bathrooms have vape detectors. We want the bathrooms to be a safe place for all to use. Please also note we will ask visitors and parents to always sign in at the front desk and wear a visitor badge.
