Bjorn- (Student Council Rep) – school has been good, semester finished nicely! It’s been nice coming back to school.  Such a good school! General Student Council (SC) Updates: SC is going to participate in Make-A-Wish week. The entire week will be dedicated to Make-A-Wish  and end it with a silent disco or some other fun event. Make-A-Wish will be in mid-February. Students are excited about Winter PE. So cool that seniors don’t have to sign up for Winter PE. Next school year, seniors will be participating in Winter PE.

4.  Teacher Report

5.  Principal Report

a.  Behavioral Health Report – Alex & Jenni

·   Alex and Jenni – State of the union update on behavioral health status. In 2008, we didn’t have a robust department. Over the years, TSD has worked on local and state grants to bolster the team and receive training & learning how we can best serve students. Breakdown of supports

·   4 School Counselors - Specialize in academic support, post sec readiness, post sec planning, social emotion wellness (the head and the heart).

·   2 Therapists - Provide sessions 1:1 for students. This role is different from counselors.

·   Laura Knight (social worker) - works closely with families.

·   Rounding us out – School nurses, school psychologists (remote at the time), 2 behaviorists/ behavioral analysts, Mr. Dan and Rex.

·   With the whole team there are aspects of a child’s life at play and we connect as a team to define roles and determine referrals. We have a Spanish speaking therapist.

·   HOW DOES SOMEONE REFER? The best avenue is to run through the school counselor who will know if student is already receiving services. They are a good point person. There are also google forms that teachers can fill out. Parents can email or connect in person.

b.  Recap of Semester 1 – See Kimble’s PowerPoint: presentation

                                            i.  Question posed to attendees:  What is the one thing that you think is the most important to focus on. Group discussed the importance of Diverse Learners, Essential Skills, applauded how the school is addressing AI!

ii.  Next semester we TMHS will focus on essential skills which encompasses other priorities on the PowerPoint list.

iii.  Toiton – professional learning out of University of Northern Coloraodo. If we don’t train our principals as leaders how can they lead their school. Kimble has gone and brought a team for 3 years now.

c.  Winter PE – Refer to PowerPoint – It take a tremendous amount of time, effort and consideration to make Winter PE really work in the middle high school grades. Meeting every need from passionate skiers to other activities that meet the needs of all students. Questions posed about Winter PE and school sports conflicting. Telski doesn’t give for students missing winter pe due to basketball. Winter PE

                                            i.  78% of TMS students on the mountain

ii.  65% of 9th – 11th graders on the mountain.

iii.  Teachers join Ski PE and other Winter PE options on Fridays to foster relationships. Or they can work collaboratively with one of their colleagues.

iv.  We count Winter PE as instructional minutes. Students have to learn for a certain number of minutes per school year. With seniors not participating in Winter PE we’re in violation of the minutes required for students to be in school. Kimble shared the long history of Ski PE which has evolved into Winter PE as a way to meet diverse student needs. Parents at accountability Meetings (now known as Miner Meetings) spent years troubleshooting and finding solutions to continue Winter PE

                                          v.  Chris has been doing a lot of work this year with the athletic department. Jill is on the athletic committee, and she’s been following closely the way we are addressing cultural considerations.

vi.  Question posed about Winter PE and school sports conflicting. Telski doesn’t give for students missing winter pe due to basketball.

                                       vii.  QR code discussion

d.  Planning – Next School Year- Refer to Kimble’s PowerPoint Slides

                                            i.  Legislation might be going to average attendance which would be a detriment to TSD.

ii.  The State did an adequacy study. Link to article here: https://www.chalkbeat.org/colorado/2025/01/05/colorado-adequacy-studies-call-for-billions-more-in-k12-education-spending/.
