Board of Education Process:

The Telluride R-1 School District Board of Education hired the Colorado Association of School Boards (CASB) to assist in finding a new superintendent. 

To help determine the qualities and characteristics of the district's next superintendent of schools, the Board of Education held focus groups in November 2019 and sent out a survey for additional input from the community. 

Through January 20, 2020, the vacancy was posted on numerous sites. Both the application and the informational brochure can be viewed through the CASB link here

Volunteers have been invited to participate in the interviews of finalists for the position of Superintendent of Schools.  Participants must be available for the following events:

  1. A two-hour interview training session to be held on February 10, 2020 at 3:30-5:30 pm; and
  2. One full day of interviews on February 24, 2020. A session lasting approximately 60-90 minutes will be conducted with each interviewee.At the end of each interview, your team will complete a form listing the candidate’s strengths and any concerns.This information will be presented to the board of education for its consideration and will be given appropriate weight in its selection of the finalist(s) for the position.

Three interview teams will be selected by the school board, each team consisting of less than 10 people.  In selecting team members, the board will be choosing individuals who represent PK-12 education, as well as a cross-section of the community. Depending upon the number of applications we may not be able to accommodate everyone.

A Request to Participate questionnaire had to be completed and returned to Kim Spaulding at the school district’s administrative offices or emailed to by January 24, 2020.  ‚Äč

Selected participants were notified by February 5, 2020.  Individuals not selected were also notified by this date.

Following the finalist interviews, a Community Meet and Greet featuring the superintendent candidates was held at the Telluride Elementary Cafeteria from 5:30 PM until 6:30 PM. 

The Telluride R-1 School District Board of Education hired John Pandolfo to be the new superintendent and announced his employment on Wednesday, February 26.
